“What should my business be doing for cybersecurity?”
“Cybersecurity for Small Business”
“Basic cybersecurity needs”
If you think you are the only person Googling these, rest assured - you’re definitely not. This is something that we get questions about all the time.
With the exception of the “Digital Umbrellas” of the world, business owners don’t open a business because they are passionate about cybersecurity. In fact, most business owners wish they didn’t have to think about cyber security at all. Just like payroll, insurance, and taxes, cybersecurity is on the list of necessary functions that ensure your business stays healthy.
But that doesn’t mean you should ignore it.
The consequences of ignoring your business taxes could be crippling to your business finances. The fallout of ignoring your payroll even once would leave you with unhappy (if any) employees. In the same way, sweeping cyber security under the rug is opening your business up to all kinds of issues that aren’t good for any business.
One out of every five businesses that suffer a cybersecurity breach have to close their doors within six months of the attack. When looking at small business, specifically, that number jumps to THREE out of every five.
WIth the increase in number of attacks year after year, it has never been more important to take cybersecurity seriously.
In an effort to help businesses focus their efforts in the right direction, we built a list of 15 cybersecurity essentials that every business should have.
This is not intended to be the end-all list for your security needs. Every business has different assets and configurations, and therefore has a different set of vulnerabilities and needs. But if you can, at least, start with these basics, you will be in a much better spot.
